Jorge has a distinguished 15-plus year career as a public servant, having served a number of California’s notable legislative leaders. He began his career as a legislative aide to then Assembly Majority Leader Marco Antonio Firebaugh. He has also served as chief of staff to a Los Angeles Unified School District board member and as legislative deputy to Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina. Prior to joining Ek, Sunkin & Bai, Jorge served as Vice President of Business Development and Government Affairs at the Meruelo Group, a Downey based minority-owned and operated holding company with vested interests in construction, television and radio, gaming and hospitality, banking, food services and private equity.
Jorge currently serves as a Council Member in the City of South Gate. He was elected to the city council in March 2011, was re-elected in March 2015, and served as Mayor of South Gate from April 2015 to April 2016.
Jorge is a lifelong resident of the City of South Gate attending San Gabriel Elementary School, South Gate Middle School and South Gate High School, where he played baseball for the SG Rams. Jorge later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach.
